ASEAN New Generation ASEAN Short Film Award Winners Announced
The ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) held the first “ASEAN New Generation ASEAN Short Film Award”. The 10 award-winning short films have been selected, and they are now available on AJC’s Instagram and YouTube (Playlist). In addition, from March 17 (Mon.) to March 30 (Sun.), the public will be able to vote for their favorites via Instagram and YouTube.

What is the ASEAN Short Film Awards?
The AJC aims to further develop ASEAN-Japan relations by deepening the understanding of ASEAN and its 10 Member States in Japan. This film award was held with the purpose of conveying to the Japanese people the new attractions of ASEAN through images and stories portrayed by the ASEAN nationals. The theme was “The World I Want to See.” Filmmakers from the ASEAN Member States were invited to submit their 2-3 minutes long short film, and approximately 100 submissions were received.
The winning works depicted various aspects of the people the ASEAN Member States. Many of the stories focus on topics such as “love,” “family,” “individuality,” and “wellbeing,” and each video offers a glimpse into the diverse cultures, social backgrounds, spirituality, and natural landscapes unique to the ASEAN Member States.
Popularity Voting
To make the award-winning films more widely available to the public, the AJC will conduct a public voting on its Instagram account and YouTube channel from March 17 (Mon.) to March 30 (Sun.) (Japan time). The AJC will encourage the members of the Japanese public to watch the videos and vote for their favorite films. The “Most Popular Film Award” will be given to the most popular film among those voted for. See the annocement post for voting more details.
Way Forward
The 10 award-winning films will be widely introduced as “ASEAN Short Film Collection Vol. 1” through the AJC’ events They will also be screened at the ASEAN Pavilion at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
