Get to Know Us!

The SEAlayan Network is a youth-led initiative led by Team CalamanSEA, comprising Jana Hupp, Rex Monreal, Maeve Dizon, and Mark Lagunsad, tackling plastic pollution in the Philippines. Our name reflects our mission: “SEA” stands for Student Environmental Advocates, “kamalayan” means awareness, and “silayan” signifies a glimmer of hope.

SEAlayan employs a multi-faceted approach, empowering both coastal communities and the future environmental leaders. We work directly with fisherfolk communities, providing them with workshops and equipping them with the skills to convert collected plastic waste into sustainable 3D printing filament. Simultaneously, we’re partnering with the Philippine Science High School System to raise awareness through engaging webinars and inspire students to join the initiative. Network members are then empowered to implement localized projects, fostering environmental responsibility within their own communities.

SEAlayan’s approach fosters long-term solutions and empowers communities to be part of the change. We believe in the power of collaboration, education, and innovation to make a significant impact on the environment.
