The ASEAN-Japan Centre alongside Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysia Investment Authority (MIDA) facilitated meetings between captains of industries in Japan, Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and H.E. Tengku Zafrul bin Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) who were visiting Japan to participate in the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
An opportunity for Japanese businesses in Malaysia to inform about their activities to high level officials from Malaysia:
The roundtable meeting between Prime Minister of Malaysia, Minister of MITI and 24 representatives from Japanese organizations and businesses operating in Malaysia was arranged on December 16th, 2023. At the roundtable, each representative informed their trade and investment activities. Furthermore, meetings between Japanese businesses and Minister of MITI were arranged, developing amicable relationships.

At the roundtable meeting the Malaysian delegation updated on Malaysia’s latest industrial master plan to Japanese and encouraged expansion of trade and investment in the green energy sector.
Way Forward
ASEAN-Japan Centre, MATRADE and MIDA will continuously work to widen the scope of Japanese businesses operating in Malaysia. Additionally, we will continue to implement activities to expand trade and investment between Malaysia and Japan in areas such as green energy, aerospace maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) and halal.
