Refresher training program for Spa and Wellness Professionals in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia

The ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) and the Ministry of Tourism of Kingdom of Cambodia co-organized the “Refresher training program for Spa and Wellness Professionals” in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. Cambodia is the lead coordinator to develop the ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Spa Professionals (ACCSSP), and this was the second year to conduct a training for spa and wellness professionals in Cambodia with AJC following the first training in Phnom Penh in 2021.

Fifty three participants were divided into two groups and completed a 10-day training in December or January. The program was composed with learnings and practices on hospitality, spa services and physiology. Additionally, a Japanese educator from a beauty and wellness school visited the training venue to give a lecture on Japanese hospitality and spa services in Japan. As there are no technical schools on the specific subject in Cambodia, the participants showed keen interest in Japanese school system and unique culture of spa rituals in Japan.

At the completion of the training, the participants were examined with written and technical assessment for the evaluation by the trainers. As a result, all participants received the certificate of competency by the Ministry of Tourism.
