The ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) is proud to announce the release of the “ASEAN-Japan Young Environmental Leaders Network (AJYELN) 2024 Storybook”, a publication that documents the inspiring journey of 33 youth fellows from 8 ASEAN Member States and Japan who implemented innovative community projects tackling marine plastic pollution.
Under the 2024 theme “Empowering the Youth in Tacking Marine Plastic Waste in ASEAN and Japan”, the AJYELN fellows organized a total of 63 initiatives that reached over 17,800 people across the region. Their work ranged from educational drama performances and beach cleanups to plastic alternatives research and podcast production. The fellows collaborated with 47 partner organizations and utilized approximately 700,000 JPY in seed funding to bring their environmental visions to life.
Notable outcomes of the AJYELN 2024 program include:
- 17,877 individuals engaged through local activities
- 63 awareness campaigns conducted in schools and communities
- 700 kg of waste collected through cleanups
- 48,000+ online followers across ASEAN and Japan
The storybook also features reflections, insights, and testimonies from fellows, mentors, and partners, underscoring the growing role of youth in regional environmental cooperation. This storybook stands as a testament to their leadership, resilience, and commitment to building a more sustainable future.
