Background and Objective of the special IGA (Industry-Government-Academic) Dialogue
The ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) was formulated in 2019 by ASEAN to “guide cooperation”, “promote an enabling environment for peace, stability and prosperity,” “enhance ASEAN’s Community building process,” and further strengthen implementation of “ASEAN priority areas of cooperation, including maritime cooperation, connectivity, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and economic and other possible areas of cooperation.”
To accelerate the process of AOIP implementation, the ASEAN leaders adopted the declaration on mainstreaming for priority areas of the ASEAN outlook on the Indo-Pacific within ASEAN-led mechanisms at the 40th ASEAN Summit on 11th November 2022 in Phnom Penh.
The AJC recognizes that enhancing cooperation on AOIP toward the 50th year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in 2023 would be important to build stronger cooperative relationship between ASEAN and Japan for peace, stability, prosperity, and development in the Indo-Pacific Region.
In this context, the AJC organizes a special Dialogue Forum by inviting senior government officials, researchers and experts on AOIP from Indonesia, Singapore and Japan to identify key priority actions toward acceleration of AOIP Mainstreaming, specifically in relations to Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023.
