ASEAN-Japan Centre and MIDA Tokyo will hold a webinar to introduce the investment
environment and M&A in Malaysia focusing semiconductors industry.
Malaysia has seen Japanese investment in a diverse range of industries and has built its
strength on its electrical and electronics industry base. Malaysia today is a major player in
the fast-expanding E&E market, of which major export destinations include Singapore,
Hong Kong, the USA, PRC, Japan and Europe. Global companies have chosen Malaysia as
investment hub which Intel to establish their advanced semiconductor packaging plant
(approx. MYR30 billion) and the establishment of a new high-performance printed circuit
board (PCB) and integrated circuit (IC) plant by Austrian semiconductor giant AT&S
(approximately MYR8.5 billion). The number of large-scale semiconductor-related
investment projects continue to increase in Malaysia.
For Japanese companies, semiconductor investment projects undertaken in Malaysia in line
with the Japanese Government’s Overseas Supply Chain Diversification Support Project. In
2022, Fuji Electric and Ferrotec Holdings have decided to establish large-scale new plants
worth over 20 billion yen and 15 billion yen respectively.
The number of companies entering Malaysia is increasing not only through the
establishment of new companies but also through mergers and acquisitions. In this seminar,
the Director of MIDA Tokyo, will talk about the investment opportunities of electronics &
electrical sector and its supporting ecosystem in Malaysia, and One Asia, a law firm, will talk
about laws related to investment and M&A, and the actual investment situation.
